How a dig works

Every rule is shown, never told. Here is what the pictures are telling you.

A glacier dig: the hook swings below the winch, artifacts and ice blocks wait below

Wait for the angle, then let it fly

The hook swings back and forth under the winch. Tap and it travels in a straight line, grabbing the first thing it touches. Boulders and ice blocks in the way come up first, so clear the path before you go for the treasure.

A volcano dig with the strength gauge and the order outlines at the top

Strength is the budget

Cranking the rope back costs strength, and heavier loads cost more. The gauge at the top is all you get for the dig. The order beside it shows the artifacts you are after; haul one up and it flies into its place in the order.

The celebration card after a finished dig, finds lined up on the shelf

Fill the order, keep the finds

When the last outline lights up, the dig is done. Your finds take a bow on a celebration card and are pasted into the atlas. Some digs also hide a star gem — bring it home and it glows in the book.
